Delsu recommends five lecturers for dismissal

Five lecturers of the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, have been recommended for sack by a disciplinary committee of the institution for various offences. The offences, report said, include sexual harassment of female students and financial extortion for marks.
The recommendation by the committee was coming 13 months after the institution dismissed three lecturers for alleged professional misconduct, including a lecturer in the Department of Theatre Arts, who was caught with examination scripts in the room of a 400 Level female student in the same department.
Investigation by New Telegraph revealed that one of the lecturers of the Department of Primary/ Nursery Education (names withheld), was caught in a hotel room in Abraka and detained for two days at the Abraka police station while trying to have his way with a female student who had pretended to succumb to his sexual advances only for her to hint the police of his actions.
A former Head of Basic Medical Sciences Department (Name witheld) was also recommended for dismissal for alleged sexual harassment and collection of various sums of money from his students in a bid to pass them in their exams.
Though the management of the institution was yet to issue a statement on the matter, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Edward Agbure, when contacted said the fate of the lecturers was anchored on the decision of DELSU’s Governing Council. Agbure said the recommendation by the committee was in the ambits of the university’s governing council, which would either uphold the recommendation or reject it.
