Accidental millitary air strike kills dozens of people in IDPs camp

At least 52 aid workers and civilians were killed on Tuesday when an air force jet accidentally bombed a camp in northeast Nigeria instead of Boko Haram militants, medical charity MSF said.
The incident happened at about 9:00 am (0800 GMT) in Rann, in the far north of Borno state, the epicentre of the jihadists’ insurgency, as food was being distributed to displaced people.
There was no official death toll from the military, which blamed “the fog of war” for the mistake, but one senior commander described the casualties from the air strike as “huge”.
One local resident, Abba Abiso, told AFP: “At least 25 were killed and many more injured.”
The medical charity Doctors Without Borders (MSF) said “at least 120 people were wounded and 52 killed following today’s bombing”, calling the attack “shocking and unacceptable.”
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) said six Nigerian Red Cross members were among those killed while 13 others were injured.
Nigeria’s President Muhammadu Buhari said in a statement he “received with regret” news of the bombing and said he sympathised with the families of the dead and injured.
The bombing comes as Nigeria’s military claims further gains against the Islamic State group affiliate, pushing them out of captured territory and their remote bases in Borno.
Last month, the army said the conflict was in its final stages after nearly eight years of violence that has killed at least 20,000 and left more than 2.6 million others homeless.
– ‘Fog of war’ –
Nigerian Army Major General Lucky Irabor, who heads operations against the militants, said the air force had been given coordinates of “Boko Haram terrorists” in the Kala-Balge area.
“Unfortunately the strike was conducted but it turned out that the locals somewhere in Rann were affected,” he told reporters at a briefing in the Borno state capital, Maiduguri.
Irabor did not give casualty figures but said local staff from MSF and the ICRC were among those wounded.
“These are the result of fog of war,” he added. “It is unfortunate. That is the reason why this war must come to an end.”
Defence spokesman Rabe Abubakar in Abuja described the incident as “a mistake”, adding: “We are actually in grief. It’s unfortunate and it’s really not intended.”
Rann resident Abba Abiso suggested the error occurred as the military was targeting rebel fighters who had been flushed out of Boko Haram camps in the Sambisa Forest area of Borno.
“In recent weeks Boko Haram has moved base to Kala from Sambisa Forest and obviously a military jet mistook Rann for Kala and bombarded, killing many civilians,” he added.
MSF and the ICRC said its teams were trying to provide emergency first aid at its facility in the camp and were stabilising patients to evacuate the wounded from the scene.
But Jean-Clement Cabrol, MSF’s director of operations, condemned the error.
“This large-scale attack on vulnerable people who have already fled from extreme violence is shocking and unacceptable. The safety of civilians must be respected,” he said.
– Previous blunders –
Northeast Nigeria and particularly Borno state has faced severe food shortages as a result of the conflict and food distribution is vital, particularly in hard-to-reach rural areas.
In November last year, the United Nations warned that 75,000 children risked starving to death within months in the region if nothing was done.
Accidental bombings have occurred in the past: in March 2014 an air force jet killed five and wounded several others when it mistakenly hit Kayamla village in the Konduga area of Borno.
The fighter jet mistook the village for a Boko Haram camp during a night raid.
In January that year, the convoy of a Nigerian senator was fired on by an air force jet which mistook the six-vehicle convoy under police and military escort for Boko Haram fighters.
No one was hurt and the military described the incident as an “operational blunder”.

Paul Pogba branded "useless" and not even worth 20m pounds by former Man united youth team player. Do you concur?

Paul Pogba was heavily criticised for his performance in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool on Sunday after conceding a penalty for handling in the box and getting away with a bizarre grapple on Jordan Henderson moments later.
Jose Mourinho made Pogba the most expensive footballer in the world when Manchester United signed him from Juventus for £89million in the summer.

But Dunphy has been far from impressed by the 23-year-old's performances this season.
“Pogba was never worth £100 million," Dunphy told Irish radio station RTE.
“At £20m he would have been expensive. With the money they’ve spent with Mourinho and [Louis] van Gaal, they should really have a better team. "Paul Pogba is very immature. He plays like a kid".
"He is not worth the money they paid for him, and he won't be worth the money they paid for him".
"He is the elephant in the room. He's useless."

Recession palava? This man murdered his wife and daughter because he can't feed them anymore... Check pics below

This is unbelievable!!! A 40-year-old man from Okpoma village in Yala Local Government Area, Cross River State, Dominic Iyayi Ogar, has thrown his in-laws into mourning following the gruesome murder of his wife and their only daughter.
Ogar is alleged to have committed the dastardly act on October 8, 2016 in Mpape, Abuja. It was learnt from the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory Command, Mr. Mohammed Mustafa, that Ogar, who slept with his wife and their only daughter on the same bed, woke up suddenly in the middle of the night, took a knife and stabbed both of them to death, and they died instantly.
Mustafa said that Ogar then carried the corpses of the dead 27-year-old wife, Omago and the daughter, two-year-old Blessing to a nearby nursery and primary school in the area; he allegedly wrote a small note and dropped it beside the corpses and then ran off to hide in his farm.
His evil deed, however, came to light when one of his neighbours, Destiny Onwusuaka, noticed a trail of blood that led to the door of the family house. In a chat with Sunday Sun reporter, Onwusuaka said: “It was around 7:00am when I discovered stains of blood on the floor and followed the trail to the door of Ogar. When I looked into the room, I saw a pool of blood but I didn’t see the husband or the victims.
“It was later that I saw the two corpses where the husband dropped them. I shouted and called our neighbours. We then ran to the police to report what we saw. We started searching for the husband. It took four days before we found him and arrested him in his farm on October 11, 2016.
Following the arrest of the suspect, the corpses of the deceased were moved to the mortuary of the National Hospital, Abuja.
At the Criminal Investigation Department of the FCT Police Command, where he spoke with Sunday Sun, Ogar said: “I don’t have a job, I cannot feed my family, I can only feed myself, and God should forgive me for what I have done.
“I don’t know what came to my mind; it was frustration that led me to stab my wife and only daughter to enable me survive in life.”
As it stands now, Mustafa said that Ogar’s hope of surviving in life now lies at the discretion of the court where he would soon be arraigned to answer charges.

This yoruba woman butchered her husband for deciding to marry a second wife.. See photos

A Yoruba woman, Oluwakemi Etu, out of jealousy butchers husband Mr. Kehinde Etu, in the early hours of saturday with machete, leaving him in pool of blood and unconscious.
It was gathered that the woman hacked her husband when he was asleep shortly after making love to her. The couple also had an argument in connection with alleged moves by the man to marry a second wife.
Various sources revealed that Oluwakemi had invited the husband over to her residence at the Erinlu area of Ijebu – Ode, Ogun State, to spend the weekend with her without suspecting any foul play.
It was learnt further that while he was there, he was treated warmly by the woman, luring him into false sense of security only to attack him savagely with machete later, inflicting several deep cuts on his chest, arms, shoulder and lower part of the head in his sleep.
The Acting Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Police Command, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident, said Oluwakemi has been arrested by policemen from the Obalende Divisional Police Headquarters, Ijebu – Ode.
He added that the woman had quarrelled with her husband earlier by night before carrying out the surprise attack on him with cutlass. The injured husband is currently receiving treatment at the State General Hospital, Ijebu – Ode.
A source at the hospital reported that the man said he never knew what hit him, having passed out and that it was later he discovered himself on the hospital with deep cuts on his chest and other parts of the body.
He however regained consciousness at the hospital.
